A flush cut saw is designed to dowels, plugs, and other protrusions flush with the surface without marring it. To accomplish this, every other tooth is set in one direction only. The bottom surface of the plate is smooth.
The Loon Lake Tool Works flush cut saw is completely hand-made and hand-sharpened. The 0.020 inch thick spring steel plate measures 8 1/2 inches long and 3 inches wide at the tooth line. The highly flexible blade allows the saw to be held flat against the workpiece. There are 14ppi crosscut teeth on each side, which cut on the pull stroke. The hand-shaped handle is made of quartersawn walnut and held in place with brass split nut fasteners. The trademark loon is marked on the plate using a traditional acid-etching process.
