Here is an extra-clean Disston No 77 "No Set" backsaw. The 18 inch long plate is nearly original size. The special teeth on this model likely had not been touched since it was made. The main part of the tooth line has 7ppi crosscut teeth, while the first few inches are 11ppi to use for starting a cut.
The apple handle has a few light scratches, but otherwise has no cracks or chips. The 1896-1917 medallion is clean and crisp.
When used to cut high quality, dry wood, the resulting cut generally needs no planing.
