Marketed by the Hummer Tool Company of Philadelphia, it is a nice example of Blount's Patent Oiler Handle as patented by William T. Blount of Orrville, Ohio on October 21, 1924. A trigger on the handle depresses a plunger inside of the handle which applies oil to the blade of the saw, presumably to reduce friction and heat during cutting.
While the idea is interesting, they were not very popular. Complete examples are hard to find today. Most are marked with the name "Southern Beauty". Others have only the patent number. This is the only one known with the Hummer Tool Company name.
