Keen Kutter KK3 Smoothing Plane -- Freshly Sharpened Tapered Blade
Made by Ohio Tool, the No 3-sized KK3 was sold by Simmons Hardware under the Keen Kutter brand. Unlike its cousin K3 (made by Stanley), the KK3 has a thick, tapered iron that sharpens to a 'keen' edge and easily resists chattering.
This example is in good user condition. It is clean and has no cracks or breaks in the cast iron. The body has been repainted with tough ceramic-based enamel. The rosewood handle has a glued repair and is missing part of the horn. The plane has been lightly cleaned to remove decades of accumulated sawdust. All parts have been tuned and is guaranteed to be in fine working order.
The blade has been sharpened with a 25 degree primary bevel and a slight 30 degree secondary bevel, making short work of smoothing out a piece of red oak.
