Disston No 9 Crosscut 10ppi Early 1865 Etch -- Freshly Sharpened
Here is a nice example of an uncommon saw, a Disston No 9 that can be positively dated to early 1865. The medallion and etch both have 'Henry Disston', which was used before the first son joined company leadership in mid-1865. Before 1865, Disston saws were marked with a stamp. This is the first time that an acid etch was used on their saws. Thus, the manufacture date can be narrowed down to the first few months of 1865.
The saw itself is very clean and straight, with a strong etch and an intact nib. The 26 inch long plate has been sharpened a number of times, but has many more years of use left in it. The apple handle is marred only by a missing piece from the top horn.
