This is a nice example of a very scarce plane. Fresh from the workshop, this No 278 rabbet/filletster plane was made in the 1910s, as indicated by the Stanley "V" logo on the lever cap knob. The top of the iron is marked "Pat Apl For", another indication of an early plane. The delicate lever cap on this example is undamaged. Though the depth stop is missing, it has both of its original nickers still in place. The original fence and screw is in nearly pristine condition. Perhaps the original owner removed it when new and stored it away in a drawer. It is fortunate that the two pieces were reunited so many decades later.
