This is an uncommonly fine example of a Richard Groves & Sons crosscut, made about 1880. The blade is clean and bright. The Groves stamp is bold, displaying three crowns above the legend "Double Refined Spring Steel". The only apology is that the nib has gone missing.
The handle is in nearly perfect condition. Other than for some light abrasions, there are no condition issues. The horns are full-length and are free of chips. The split nuts have never been removed. Groves handles are the epitome of style, with a pleasing shape, well-formed lambs tongue, and even some arris features.
The 8ppi crosscut teeth have been freshly sharpened:
